Why therapy?

Because it works!

Therapy has been scientifically proven effective. When you make the commitment to partner with a therapist you will gain self-awareness. As a result, you will begin to change and see results faster and easier than attempting the transformation on your own.

Change happens when you begin to connect what you are thinking and feeling to what you are doing in your life. Counseling is where you connect the dots between your thoughts, emotions, and behavior. You will begin to build mental and emotional muscles, and create lasting change in your life.

For those who struggle with alcohol and other drug issues, putting down the substance is only the beginning of the recovery process. Therapy can be very beneficial in helping you with your emotional sobriety and other issues, such as trauma, that directly impact your recovery.

How long will I be in therapy?

The frequency and the duration is up to you. We will make recommendations based on your circumstances, but ultimately you decide.

Some people will need and want therapy more frequently and for longer duration than others. You will get the best and quickest results by attending counseling at least weekly to start. This is especially important in the beginning as we get to know you and your challenges.

When you commit to taking consistent action toward your goals, you will see results. The pain and struggle you are feeling right now will not last forever. Therapy is a way out of that pain and struggle.

Therapy is worth it. You are worth it.

How long are sessions?

Sessions are “a clinical hour.” That means they are 50 minutes long, with the last 10 minutes used to complete the documentation. You can expect to get to work from the very first minute and squeeze the maximum benefit out of our time.

What are sessions like?

Your therapy sessions will look and feel like a conversation with a purpose. We, whichever of us you are working with, will ask questions. We explore different patterns and themes that are present that you may not even be aware of. There is no set agenda. It is all about YOU and YOUR GOALS.

Our goal is for you to walk out feeling heard and understood, never judged, and perhaps with some more insight and understanding than you came in with. We will provide education if the need arises, along with exploring different exercises and activities that you can work on outside of our therapy sessions. The goal is to take what you learn in your 50-minute session and apply it to your daily life.

Do you prescribe medication?

No, we do not prescribe medication. We are happy to recommend a psychiatrist or a medical doctor if you require medication.

Do you take insurance?

We are considered out-of-network with most insurance companies. Some of our clients utilize their out-of-network (ONN) insurance benefits and are reimbursed for a portion of their out of pocket costs. We are able to provide you with the appropriate documentation required to submit to your insurance company for reimbursement (called a Superbill).

The best way to determine your insurance benefits for therapy is to call your insurance company directly. You can usually find the number on the back of your insurance ID card (if there’s a specific Behavioral Health number, call that one). When you call ask about your “outpatient, out-of-network, mental health benefits.”

A WORD OF CAUTION: There are many factors to consider when utilizing your insurance benefits to help pay for therapy, including your privacy and access to care. Insurance companies can (and will) limit the number of sessions that are covered, and request copies of your therapy notes, which are records of what occurred during therapy sessions.

Additionally, if you choose to utilize your out-of-network benefits, we will be required to provide you with a mental health diagnosis to prove “medical necessity” for therapy. This diagnosis may become part of your permanent record, and result in you having a pre-existing condition.

We believe that therapy is an essential service that everyone can benefit from at some point in their lives, and that a required diagnosis is a barrier to accessing good care.

How much do you charge?

$200 per hour
$250 per hour for EMDR
$400 per hour for Rapid Resolution Therapy

What is your cancellation policy?

We are happy to be flexible. But if you cancel within 24 hours of your appointment time, you will be charged the full rate.

We see this as a clinical issue. Healthy people show up where they are supposed to be when they are supposed to be there. We will hold you accountable to keeping your appointments so you will have at least one area of your life that is healthy.

Also, you’ll have better results if you make therapy a priority in your life!
